Followers can spend money too, if they want to. The same article says followers can buy pay-to-view content a creator sends in messages. They can also buy pay-per-view posts on the creator's wall, but only when the creator posts them to "Followers and Subscribers".
Captions even show on locked posts. Fanvue says creators choose whether paid content appears blurred or blacked out, and that subscribers and followers can still see post captions. Changed your mind? The help centre says followers can unfollow any time from the creator's profile.

The line is simple. Fanvue's help centre says followers can't view any content that's only available to subscribers.
Following is also up to the creator. Fanvue says the option to follow for free is there by default, and creators can switch the Follow for Free button off any time. So if a profile only offers a subscription, that's the creator's choice.

Sometimes. It's the creator's call. As of June 2025, Fanvue's help centre said a creator who leaves Follow for Free on can choose whether followers are allowed to message them. Some creators only accept messages from subscribers, while others let any follower reach them for a gift or tip.
If the message box isn't available on a profile, Fanvue says the creator has likely limited messages to subscribers, and you'd need to subscribe first. Heads up: creators can message followers as well as subscribers, so your inbox can fill up. Archiving a chat tidies it away without blocking anyone.

They sound alike, but they're different switches. Fanvue's help centre notes that the Free Trials Without a Payment Method setting is different from the Follow for Free button. A follow gets you the follower view. A free trial is a trial of the subscription itself.
That difference matters when the trial ends. Fanvue's subscriptions article says that if you join on a free trial and don't cancel before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription at the creator's standard price. When a follow isn't enough, head to the creator's profile and select the subscription option. Fanvue's help centre says a subscription unlocks all subscriber-only posts and media, plus direct messages with the creator, subject to their settings.
Quick note on billing. Fanvue says subscriptions bill in 30-day cycles from your first payment and renew automatically unless you cancel. The total, including any VAT or local taxes, is shown on the payment screen before you confirm. Pay-per-view you bought separately stays accessible after a subscription ends, unless the creator deletes it.
